Rosco

This is Rosco...a much loved pug. He cracks me up! He belongs to a friend who commissioned his portrait as a Christmas gift...but some technology/blue tooth glitch put an end to the surprise. It's ok. Rosco's dad was glad to have it early.

Inside Out

As I mentioned the other day, I"m not yet used to painting in front of large crowds (like the ones at last weekend's artisan fairs), so I chose to paint a comfortable subject done from a series of familiar reference photos.  I'm pleased with the brushwork and am happy to say I actually enjoyed people stopping to watch. Interestingly, kids were most intrigued...came right up close and asked a lot of great questions. Here's some of the music I'm painting to lately.

Peace by Peace

This one's a gift. It's a little more intimate than the others, 5" x 5". And here's some cool music my son introduced me to...great for painting...and bouncing!

As It Should Be

More stones painted while I was at the artisan fair. I don't usually paint in front of large crowds of people, so stuck with a familiar and comfortable subject.

All is Well

I was happy to be able to do some painting at last weekend's art fair. It generated some interest and was nice to be able to get some work done while I was...working. :o) This is one of the stone paintings I did. I really like the gentle colors of it.

The Sky's the Limit

Had a busy, full and successful weekend at my first art fair.  It was so organized, professionally run and I was among some amazing artisans. I'm pooped! And another one coming up this weekend.
I've been wanting to paint clouds for a while now...and The Daily Paintworks Challenge recently gave me the perfect excuse. This was my challenge entry. Here's the current painting music I'm listening to.

This one is all about the light. It was really fun trying to capture how the light hit each grape in a different way. And some of the music that had me moving...

Sun Kissed

This is the view from one of my bedroom windows. I'm pleased with this one. I like the colors and the way the late afternoon sun glances off the tree trunks. Here's some of the sweeet  easy music I listened to while painting.

In Her Glory

It's been apple season here in Maine for a while now. I always pick at our local orchard and spend lots of time savoring the smells, sights and sounds...and photographing. Though I spent lots of time trying to get it correct, the color of this one is much better in person.

Waiting on Winter

I really like the interesting shape of these twisted skeins of yarn some companies make. And I like surrounding myself with all kinds, textures and colors of yarn even better. Here's some of the music I painted to today. I like it...uh-huh, uh-huh. :o)

Cool Wools

More wool, as promised. But in a different form...off the sheep!  Painting yarn forces you to really squint and be choosey about your strokes. Believe it or not there are relatively few individual strands here. Here's some great music by the BEST BAND EVER.

Peachy Sheep

I've always liked this color combination...sort of teal and a rosy peach. And those are the colors I saw in this sheep...I swear! One more goat that I'll post tomorrow...then it's on to more wool...the kind in balls and skeins. Here's some great sheep painting music. Hey!

Me and My Shadow II

It cracked me up the way the one goat is peering from behind the other...almost like a two headed goat! I'm in love with their eye lashes. This is great music for painting. I can't help but paint/dance...can you?

Is That You?

I hope you're not tired of the goats! I've got a few more I'd like to do. They just speak to me! Well...not literally. I'm really getting to know their facial anatomy which is one of the benefits of doing a series. Winter Wools

This time of year in Maine just makes me want to make soup and knit socks and mittens...not that I have time! But I enjoy painting yarn. Bette Davis Eyes

I am absolutely delighted today to be able to say I am now a member of The Daily Painters . :o) This gallery was founded in 2006 by artist, Micah Condon, and was the first juried site of daily painting artists. It is truly a thrill and an honor to be among such diverse and richly talented artists.
About today's painting...these guys are so much fun to paint!  There's a lot of color in a white goat. Here's some of the music I painted to. I think it's appropriate. (To continue looking at the art while you listen, right click on the colored word 'music' and go to Open Link in New Tab.)

Next!

Not only are these animals fun to paint, I'm having a blast with the backgrounds!  I got out my seldom used Permanent Rose mixed with a bit of Ultramarine for this one. Whisper Sweet Nothings

Goats, goats and more goats...and some sheep in line, too. The 'sweet spots' in these paintings are definitely the way the light catches their eyes and shines through their ears. I can't get enough!
I have been painting daily...honest. They've been Christmas surprise commissions ( shhh ), so I've not been able to post them yet! Here's some of my new painting music. (To continue looking at the art while you listen, right click on the colored word 'music' and go to Open Link in New Tab.)

Many more goats to come, but I took a brief diversion to paint a couple of commissions and these Cape Breton beach stones. Say What??

This begins a series of new goats I spent time with at the Common Ground Agricultural Fair this past weekend. Such characters! I swear these guys were posing for me. This 'kid' and most of the others I'll be painting over the next couple of weeks belong to Ken and Janice Spaulding at Stony Knolls Farm in Saint Albans, Maine. They share their knowledge and expertise at Goat School. Here's some great moving music. Bad Hair Day
