Lilac and Lily

I've always struggled with lilacs. So much detail. I squint and squint, but for lilacs, that's not helped. This time I tried a different trick for reducing the detail. I used Photoshop to blur the image for me. I think this is the most successful I've been with lilacs. Here's some of the music I grooved to. Stairway to Heaven

This is another commission. Gotta love that! I'm always honored when people contact me about creating a very personal gift. It was fun to just focus on these beautiful granite steps.

Left Standing

Here's the second of the cherry paintings I did recently. Sometimes when I create the set ups, I like several and can't decide on just one to paint...thus a series is born! Here's some of the painting music. (To continue looking at the art while you listen, right click on the colored word 'music' and go to Open Link in New Tab.)

Up on Top

Cherries are a fun subject to paint. Glass jars? Not so much...but I'm working on it! I did two paintings of this similar subject. I'll post the other tomorrow. I like how the color of the fruity subject in this one stands out in contrast to the neutral background. Here's some appropriate music. Mr. Blue Sky

It's always a blast painting feathers on fowl. I loved the gold of these and the relatively flat background. Off tonight to the last of the Bangor waterfront concert series...Poison and Def Leppard! Should be fun. Here's some painting music to get in the mood. (To continue looking at the art while you listen, right click on the colored word 'music' and go to Open Link in New Tab.)

From Behind

Many times I'm more interested in the back than the front of flowers. Here's some feel good painting music by a band I saw live on the waterfront in Bangor last night. Fun group! Light Touch

This is the last of this series. I thoroughly enjoyed these subjects. By this last painting I felt much more comfortable with feathers...their translucency and lightness. I'm really pleased with the shadow of the feather on the egg.

Give Me Shelter

This is a really delicate sheer feather. I'm delighted with how the top of the egg shows subtly through it. A happy moment in painting.

Featherweight

I really love the colors in this one. The biggest challenge was getting the subtle difference between the top part of the egg that was slightly shadowed by the delicate feather and the bottom half not in shadow. I'm pleased! And I love this feel good music for painting. (To continue looking at the art while you listen, right click on the colored word 'music' and go to Open Link in New Tab.)

Enfold

It's really a blast painting feathers. They have so many textures...the clear quill, downy feather bits, the sleek smoothed section, etc. I really like the shape of the singular shadow cast by the egg and feather here. Some cool feather-light music. (To continue looking at the art while you listen, right click on the colored word 'music' and go to Open Link in New Tab.)

I'm Tickled

This is the last painting I did while camping and the first of a series of five with the green egg. I like the colors in this series and the way the cast shadows play an integral part in the paintings.

The Point

This is Kemp's Point. It's a couple mile walk down the beach from our land on Cape Breton. Up until thirty years ago, there were lobster shanties all along the point where local fishermen would go from their homes to stay and lobster for the week. Eventually the land was eroded by the sea and the last remaining shacks that were there when we first were married are now long gone. Now there's just a beautiful grassy bluff overlooking the point where we stop and relax or picnic.

Halfway

This is the second painting I did while camping. The sunflowers back here in Dixmont are beginning to open. We've not had much rain so they're a bit delayed. Since my husband plants hundreds and hundreds of them each year, the anticipation is delicious! Here's some of the music I listened to on my iPod while painting.  (To continue looking at the art while you listen, right click on the colored word 'music' and go to Open Link in New Tab.)

Half and Half

I mentioned a while back that I painted while we were camping at Cape Breton. This is the first of four I did there...relying on my comfort subject in a different painting environment.
