Drifting

I haven't had a lot of painting time lately getting ready for my studio open house this Saturday, but this is a recent landscape.

See Through

I love-love-loved painting this! I've painted eggs before but only the shells. This was the first time actually attempting the insides.
To all who have expressed an interest, left a comment, made a purchase, participated in a creative project or workshop, offered a constructive critique or gracious encouragement, I thank you from my heart. You keep me motivated, uplifted, striving to improve...and most of all, you keep me joyously creating. Happy Thanksgiving.

Shine On

Our neighbors decorated this little unassuming tree in front of their home a few years ago. I loved the simplicity of it and the big old fashioned lights as it glowed in the twilight. Though those neighbors have come and gone, the tree remains. I did a similar painting a couple of years ago in soft pastels. I always loved the reference image so painted it again in oils.

Beaming

I'll be giving away this painting at my studio open house soon. If you're in the area (the rural hills of Dixmont, Maine) please stop by and join us on Saturday, December 3 between 1:00 and 4:00. There's always lots of good food, great friends and I'll be displaying over 200 of my recent oil paintings from the past year. I'm busily planning and getting ready...can't wait for the celebration!

Outdoors In

These are the same leaves from yesterday's painting. I brought them in for a still life. I love this color combination of warm orangey red  and turquoise.  Here's some great music to paint to. In Triplicate

On a walk during a recent snowstorm here in the northeast, I shot these oak leaves  against the snow. They were a blast to paint being so vibrant. The leaves lose some of their detail in the scan process. I couldn't resist when it was done but still wet, sprinkling a bit of clear super fine glitter over parts of the snow. It's really quite magical in a certain light. Here's some of today's musical inspiration. Perfect Balance

Life's all about balance, isn't it? I did this one from an older series of reference photos. I liked the idea of the series, the way the pears were sliced, and wanted to paint this one from it. Here's the inspiring music. (To continue looking at the art while you listen, right click on the colored word 'music' and go to Open Link in New Tab.)

Upbeat

This is the last of the spoons. I thoroughly enjoyed it and thank you all kindly for your comments and interest. This is the only one of the five done on a panel toned with yellow. The others were done with Cadmium Red. I guess you could say this one's a self portrait in spoons. If you look closely you can see me upside-down in each of the spoons holding up my camera and snapping the photo. Bump up the bass and enjoy today's music . :o) (To continue looking at the art while you listen, right click on the colored word 'music' and go to Open Link in New Tab.)

And the Beat Goes On

By this fourth painting I was really getting the hang of simplifying the reflections and getting the shadows more accurate. Here's today's music. Enjoy! (To continue looking at the art while you listen, right click on the colored word 'music' and go to Open Link in New Tab.)

Beatniks

It was interesting with this one to see how various things in  my studio, like the windows, reflected differently because the spoons were at different angles. With this painting I learned: simplify, simplify, simplify! Here's the music that got me going.  (To continue looking at the art while you listen, right click on the colored word 'music' and go to Open Link in New Tab.)

Off Beat

By this second painting, I was really having fun with these spoons.  I was also feeling a bit more competent mixing various grays. And actually I was discovering how  to make grays look silver. These are long handled ice cream sundae spoons that I've had forever. When my kids were younger we decorated the handles with polymer clay to really jazz up the ice cream celebration. The clay covered handle is what you see here. Here's some of the music I listened to while painting. We Got the Beat

This is the first in a series of five spoon paintings I'll post over the next week. I've really enjoyed painting them and have learned something new with each one. With this one, I realized there is a LOT going on in all that shiny reflectiveness! From the beginning for some reason the spoons reminded me of musical notes. And here's the music I painted to. The Kiss

A friend sent this music and wondered what I might paint to it. Why, pears...of course. Though I had a bit of a struggle with this painting, I'm really pleased with how it turned out.
