Peasful Pair

I did this painting in response to Carol Marine's Daily Paintworks Challenge this week... an easy challenge since I love polka dots! I think this is my favorite color combination...purple and green. Here's the music that had me polka-ing. (To continue looking at the art while you listen, right click on the colored word 'music' and go to Open Link in New Tab.)

Arc

Here's the last in this series of paint brushes. I enjoyed it...learned more about painting metal, various textures and shadows...always shadows. Here's some of the rockin' music I played. Flipped

I'm really enjoying mixing the grays and depicting silver. Crazy fan brushes...they're so unpredictable! Here's the musical inspiration. (To continue looking at the art while you listen, right click on the colored word 'musical' and go to Open Link in New Tab.)

Menage a Trois

I'm having FUN with this new series...more of my daily tools. The brushes allow me to work on various textures all in one subject, the bristles, the wooden handles and the metal ferrules. I've not done a lot of shiny metal surfaces before and I'm really enjoying figuring out how to render them with paint. And of course always experimenting with shadows...their color and part in the overall composition. Here's the rocking music that had me paintdancing (Is that a word? It should be.) You Complement Me

This is the last of this particular paint tube series. Who knows...there may be more! I like the way the shadows link the tubes. I got lots of practice mixing a whole range of grays for the reflective surfaces of the silver and gold-ish tubes.

Upstanding

I love that a series allows me to stay with a subject long enough to really explore it...shapes, colors, shadows, composition, everything. My daughter introduced me to the music of The Brew...great to paint to. (To continue looking at the art while you listen, right click on the colored word 'music' and go to Open Link in New Tab.)

The Line Up

This is the palette of paints I use every day, in addition to Titanium White and occasionally Burnt Umber. It is Alizarin Crimson, Ultramarine Blue, Pthalo Blue, Cadmium Red Medium, Cad Yellow Lemon, and Cad Yellow Light. For now...that's all I need. :o)

Standing on the Corner

These are the 'warms' in my palette. Though I only use Cadmium Orange occasionally, the black and orange paint tube added a nice pop of contrast in this composition. Here's the hot music I painted to. (To continue looking at the art while you listen, right click on the colored word 'music' and go to Open Link in New Tab.)

There's One in Every Crowd

This begins another series...my tools, first my paints. When I was done with this one, I felt the whole painting was too cool (as in temperature, not status). So days later, before posting it, I warmed up the background with a very diluted wash of Cadmium yellow and white, wiped most of it off and was left with a warmer background. I've never really done that before but it produced the desired effect. Can't get enough of this music. Exposed

This is the first of four paintings where I am focusing on a few specific things. First the graphic background; second, the major role the cast shadows play in the composition and third, the fruit flesh. There is a lot going on there...loads of variations in creamy  yellows, greens and peach. And as always, I love the beautiful shape of pears.

Shared Memories

This is the only painting in this series for which I used a Burnt Umber panel instead of black. I wondered if it would be easier to get the marble's transparency. It might have been, but I think I still prefer the contrast of the black ground. One last painting in this series tomorrow.

She Exclaimed

This is a series I'm truly enjoying. I love all the color and the challenge of contrasting  the opaque solidity of the stones versus the transparent glass marbles. To me...this is bliss in painting! Rock Out

Continuing to study the marbles. I was pleased with how these shadows turned out and again like how they play such an integral part of the composition. Here's some great painting music.
