I Can See Clearly Now

I love all these little odd sized and shaped bottles. Still playing with the subtleties of painting glass...and here's the music I painted to. (To continue looking at the art while you listen, right click on the colored word 'music' and go to Open Link in New Tab.)

Gone But Not Forgotten

Each summer we spend a week at a lakeside camp that's been in my husband's family since I've known him (Since 5th grade...that's a very long time!) When we arrived last summer, this small antique pitcher filled with pink mini carnations was on the dining room table. The flowers were dry and  had seen better days but I loved the way the sunlight kissed the edges from behind. That's what I was trying to capture. Here's the music that had me going today. One Sided

Here's the shot glass again. I like that this painting is mostly monochromatic with only that bright bit of warm orange,  a reflection of something shiny in my studio. Here's the great classic music that had me paint-dancing. :o)  (To continue looking at the art while you listen, right click on the colored word 'music' and go to Open Link in New Tab.)

Ripe and Ready

I had fun with the colors in this plum. Still working on the black gessoed backgrounds and discovering the ins and outs of them. I prepped twelve more panels today...so there's plenty more to come! Here's the music that got me going. Enjoy! (To continue looking at the art while you listen, right click on the colored word 'music' and go to Open Link in New Tab.)

One Hot Bunch

I think this is my first try with radishes. It was challenging at first to get the red right. Cadmium Red was too warm for radishes. Alizarin and Permanent Rose were not quite right by themselves, either. But once I got all three in there, it seemed to work. Here are some steps in the process and of course, some music for my inspiration and your pleasure. Cling Ons

Gotta admit...I had a blast with this one. I wanted to figure out a way to get all that texture in...the really coarse sand in the foreground, the periwinkles and the rough rock they were clinging to. To create the sand, I went a little Jackson Pollock. Masked off the rest,  thinned down the oils and splattered. Did the big rock next with cooler colors and visible brush strokes. And lastly the periwinkles, keeping them loose and unfussy, but still the focus of the painting. I like the three bands of color/texture that the subject and composition allow. I'm pleased with this one and really had fun with it. Here's some of the musical inspiration. (To continue looking at the art while you listen, right click on the colored word 'musical' and go to Open Link in New Tab.)
And a rollover of the process...

Muddy Waters

This is the jar our daughter Molly uses to rinse her acrylic brushes. I like the way the light shines through the residue clinging to the bottle and all the telltale colors.  A little appropriate and very sexy music. ;o)  (To continue looking at the art while you listen, right click on the colored word 'music' and go to Open Link in New Tab.)

Tre Vini

Still working on and loving the black backgrounds. I painted a similar set up with wine bottles a while ago that sold at my open house. So I painted another version today (above).  It sold, too. :o)

Below is the first painting I did back in December....and some classic music to enjoy with the wine. (To continue looking at the art while you listen, right click on the colored word 'music' and go to Open Link in New Tab.)

Rock On

More smooth Cape Breton beach stones. I love painting them...probably because of all the color I can get in. Here's the musical inspiration...and the steps along the way. Enjoy! Back in Black

As promised, here's another shot at this set up (sorry, couldn't resist.) This one began on a black gessoed panel. I really like working on the black and will be doing more. Here's a little rollover of the painting in progress. The title seemed appropriate and the music, too. On the Rocks

These are beach stones from Cape Breton Island that I put in a shot glass I found at Goodwill for 69 cents. I had fun with this one for several reasons. First , I love painting stones. Secondly, I'm enjoying (much to my surprise and delight) painting glass. And lastly because I did a little experiment. The panel for this painting was toned with Cad red. Tomorrow I'll post a similar one I did on a panel coated with black gesso. Here's the classic ( not classical!) music I painted to today. The Lady Next Door

Though it's mid January here in mid Maine, we have no snow. That's no exaggeration. Not a bit.  But a few weeks ago when we did have some, the girls next door, who are two and four, created this glorious snow woman. They were kind enough to build her right across the street in their front yard, with one smiling face toward our home...and a second one on the back facing their house.

Well, it wouldn't be a new year of painting for me without a pear...so here's the first of 2012. And some groovin' music, too. Cheers! (To continue looking at the art while you listen, right click on the colored word 'music' and go to Open Link in New Tab.)

Christmas Spirits

Friends attached this lovely holly sprig to their Christmas card. How nice of them to provide still life inspiration. Never thought I'd say this, but I'm having fun painting glass!

Relaxation

This is Jen. She's my friend, an ex-colleague in my past education life and one of the best teachers I know. Her mom got this painting for her as a Christmas surprise and we pulled it off brilliantly if I must say!
