Beached Blondes

This is from the third day of plein air painting on Cape Breton Island. In my zeal to paint these beautiful wild beach roses up close (there were also  deep magenta and pink ones growing), I set up right IN the bush. As soon as I began painting I realized I was not alone. There were bees everywhere! I happily painted for 2 hours listening to their busy buzzing and we never bothered each other at all.

I want to share just a bit more about my materials. For now I have a cool carpet bag (I feel like Mary Poppins) that everything fits into. I know for longer jaunts and more intense hiking I'll need a back pack.

 

I tape a sheet of a disposable palette, cut to size, onto the wooden palette in my pochade box. This makes clean up really easy.

Though my goal is to keep plein air painting simple and not cumbersome in terms of materials, this accessory makes me smile out loud. So far, I've not ordered one for myself...yet. How cool is this?
