Sea Grass

I really enjoy painting these little seaside vignettes.  LOVE this fun painting music! I could hardly stand still!

Georgia Oh!

Rather than a field of flowers, or even the whole flower, I've always preferred a more intimate perspective of things. Here's a tribute to the oh-so-amazing Georgia O'Keeffe. And the perfect musical accompaniment. Enjoy.

Weekend Retreat

This is the view from the Samoset Resort on the coast in Rockland, Maine. Beautiful place. This is part of the golf course I think. I liked the bright clouds amid all the gray. Here's some classic music to paint to. Crank it!

Safe Harbor

I shot this reference photo on a nice 3.5 mile loop around Portland Harbor earlier this winter. I loved the striking contrast of the bright sunlit tail feathers with the darker bodies of these geese. And here's some great music that always delivers.

After the Storm

I'm writing this as the snow falls outside. A couple of weeks ago we had a wonderful blizzard here in Maine. After the storm was over, the sun came out and I went for a long snow shoe walk. This is a self portrait, of sorts. Some appropriate music for creating this painting...feel good music.

Open Up

Sometimes I just want to paint flowers in the winter. I'm really pleased with this one. Permanent Rose is not in my usual limited palette...but sometimes, like in this case, it's exactly what I need. It always blows me away. I love me some Maxwell music. :o)

Just the Two of Us

Seagulls have such attitude, don't they? The sweet spot in this painting for me is the way his shadow falls across his foot. He looks a little suspicious, doesn't he? Hmmm...paranoid. Probably thinks he's being followed.
I currently can't get enough of this music

Peck of Pears

I've always liked this type of painting where the multiple subjects fill the canvas. I particularly liked this section of the pear photo I shot becasue of the cool underside of the single leaf. Here's some great painting music. A pretty cool music vid, too.

Closed for the Season

It's a blast painting nests. You can get a little crazy. :o)  I spotted this one recently in an old maple in our front yard.
I've been away for several days in southern Maine. Reconnecting complete with dear friends, comfort food, snow covered views, all night conversations, music (with live musicians!) art...can you say rejuvenation?

Male Guest

We've been so lucky to have a pair of cardinals at our feeders this winter. (Not sure the cat agrees) I chuckled when I posted this noticing how dissimilar in subject, but similar in color yesterday's post and today's are. Not unusual except that I'm quite a bit ahead with paintings, so just choose one to post not remembering the order in which they were painted. So what I said yesterday holds true, I guess I like this color combination. Here's some great painting music.

Winter Warmth

I really like this color combination. We've got a full fledged blizzard going on today here in Maine. It's beautiful! But for some reason in the midst of winter, I often feel like painting flowers. Here's the musical inspiration.

In the Persimmon Patch

The pig is back for a return engagement. Sometimes, especially in the cold Maine winter, I just love painting in such warm rich tones. I don't often do brown backgrounds...but I like it. Here's the music I painted to.

Bling

This is a larger painting done on gallery wrapped canvas. I like the challenge of the sea glass itself and trying to capture its reflective glow on the surface it's on. Here's the musical inspiration.

Prima Donna

This is the last in the feather series. I ended with a bang...the prima donna of feathers. Ha! This whole series has been a joy.

Whenever I do a series, especially one with as many paintings as this one, it gives me such satisfaction to see them all together. Kind of the icing on the cake. So here's a montage of all the rest (gotta have even numbers, don'tcha know) Click on the image to enlarge it. Thanks :o)

Midas Touch

I had a blast painting this one. It's so...soft. I'm pleased with the colors in this one, too. Turkey feathers are so amazing. They literally have metallic gold on them. So I thought it was a perfect time to incorporate some real 22k Australian gold leaf. See the steps below. I got some new painting music today. Hey!
Oil and gold leaf on panel, 6 x 6"

After the sizing was dry I carefully applied the leaf where I wanted it.

I then began painting as I normally would being careful to preserve  the gold leaf.

By the end I had preserved just enough of the leaf to help it realistically blend into the rest of the painting. It's quite lovely.
