The Lone Stranger

Honestly I still haven't figured out if this is a raven, a grackle or a plain ole crow, but I love the posture and silhouette it creates against the background.  And sometimes... ya just gotta have hot pink! It's partner, The Lone Ranger, is here.

  1. Upon further inspection...

    A darling starling though black
    has a yellow bill, nope.
    A raven you would know,
    it's huge, really huge, nope.
    That leaves you something
to crow about but, like the
    starling and raven, crows
    have dark eyes, so, nope
    and nope and nope. However,
    grackles, who have a
    purple-blue head and throat
    that appear black, they are
the only black bird in Dixmont
    range with yellow eyes, so,
    as painted, it's likely a
    Common Grackle
    (Quiscalus quiscula).

  2. I love the direction lines in this, Brenda. And, of course, the hot pink! We have many grackles, crows and ravens here, too, and it is hard to tell them apart at a quick glance.
