Stone Stacks

My stone loving friend from across the continent gifted me with these on her recent visit. They(the rocks and my friend) are from the shores of Oregon. This one was all about the light, the translucency and opaqueness of the rocks and friendship...it rocks! :o)

Divinity

This is one of my recent favorites. I like the simplicity of it with a bit of abstraction too. The background in the reference actually had a lot of other 'stuff' in it. I decided to eliminate all of it and I think it makes for a more graphic image. Here's some of the musical inspiration.

Rest

I love that, even though the roses in the last few paintings had gone by, they're still beautiful/paintable. I like the angle of this one. It was done on an untoned panel as opposed to yesterday's post which was done on a black primed panel. Here's some of the musical inspiration...inflatable dolls and all!

Gentle Passing

Some dear friends recently sent the most gorgeous bouquet of mauve roses and white calla lilies. Breathtaking! I shot many reference photos. This rose was past its 'prime' and losing petals, but I love its sort of gentle resignation. I'm in the process of trying to figure out if I can get flowers to do what I envision better on the black background or not. More to come... Here's some of the musical inspiration. I'm a big Van fan...and this is one of my favorites.

Light Tipped

What first caught my eye about this was the back lit buds and leaves. I'm pleased with how I was able to retain that initial vision.

Five Phoebes

Here's the second version of the phoebe nest. Equally as fun to paint. I started this one on a panel ever so lightly tinted with Ultramarine.  This view is also a bit closer so the eggs are larger. Here's the musical inspiration.
