    The Piercing Look

    When the artist looks at
    this canvas while painting,
    does she wonder about
    the sheepish low stare of
    the subject looking back?

    Does she brush a touch of
    yellow to the earring?

    Or does the artist look
    and wonder that it's not
    a canvas she's looking
    at but that she's gazing,
    staring, in a mirror?

    Does she pull her ear to
    feel her left ear's earring?
