Parrot in Periwinkle

Remember that crayon from childhood in the box of 64 Crayolas called Periwinkle? It was sort of a cornflower blue. I always loved that one.

I have no idea why, but for some reason this guy makes me think of a professor.  Could it be the 'scholarly' middle part in his coif? I'm particularly pleased with this one.

School of Thought

Our youngest "spawn" is graduating from high school tonight. With all the thoughts and emotions that accompany such a momentous event...I thought the title was appropriate. I painted this for this week's Daily Paintworks Challenge here.

Am I allowed to say, this is one of my favorite paintings I've ever done. It's just one of those times when every aspect turned out the way I wanted it to. The color and delicacy of the petals, the greens of the leaves, the color and transparency of the shadow. These are all things that challenge me and I can't tell you how delighted I am with each of them in this painting. Thanks for letting me bask in the glow a bit. :o)
