Bold
Another of our sunflowers. Though I love all the varieties, the traditional BIG bright yellow ones with the huge dark centers are my favorite. Some of ours grow to nine
feet tall.
This
was the mood music for painting.

Aflame
Tropical Storm Irene was good to us with only three days of no power. I painted from the light of a north window and am delighted to be back posting again. The sunflowers are in full bloom and continue to amaze me with their beauty and variety. Despite lack of rain early in the season, thanks to my husband, our yard and fields are full of them!
Aflame
also means eager and excited...I like that. More to come...

Plump Rump
I just LOVE these small square polka-dotted plates my dear friend gave me for my birthday. She gave me square bowls, too! You'll be seeing more of both I think. This was a fun one to paint...with all that color.

Robin Remembered
My friend,
Bruce
, recently had a robin nesting on his gas grill. He graciously agreed to let me work from one of his photos in his "Robin Determined" nesting series. The painting is how I interpreted it.

The Nearness of You
I hope you'll pardon my indulgence, but for some reason this is one of my recent favorites. I was really pleased with the colors of the pears themselves... and just the overall colors in general.

Bottoms
I'm really pleased with this one. Sometimes a piece just paints itself and the unfussiness (spell check says that's not a word, but it's the best one I can come up with) I strive for happens. This one was effortless...and fun!
A little
musical inspiration
for you.

The Space Between
(A nod to Dave Matthews for the title idea.) My, oh my...sometimes you all overwhelm me... in the
best
way. That you take the time, not only to view my paintings, but to leave your thoughtful and encouraging comments, well... it just positively MAKES MY DAY!
This flower is from one of the many reference photos I shot at the botanical gardens I visited recently. More to come when I arrive home from a few days away relaxing/rejuvenating at
my friend's
camp. :o)

A Few of My Favorite Things
This is my submission to this week's
Daily Paintworks Challenge
. Click the link to read more about the challenge and see all the entries. The challenge was to paint our favorite mug we reach for when we want something hot to drink. Well, I don't drink coffee...but this is my favorite wine mug! Does that count? I decided to include a few of my other favorite things...

Me and My Shadow
I found this sweet little clear pink vase at a local Goodwill store. I brought it home and my daughter informed me it's a shot glass.

Her Self
This self portrait is from a plein air painting excursion on the coast of Maine last year. Wasn't sure I'd ever paint it, but it was one of those photos (thanks to my friend
Bruce McMillan
) that sat in my file for a while and just begged to be painted one day recently.

Light Kiss
It's been too long since I've painted pears! I've missed them! Had fun with lost edges and as always am intrigued by the way objects emerge into the light. I enjoy trying to capture it.

Nosegay
I recently spent a day visiting the most incredible public gardens. I shot a TON of reference photos. And what did I decide to paint first from the excursion? This simple small vase of flowers I noticed on the shelf in a bathroom! :o)

Full Circle
This was kind of a cool experiment. I used metallic gouache to tone the panel. It's a warm coppery color. Then I painted the stones, shadows and some implications of the beach sand around them. I then went back in with the gouache to shine it up a bit. It's really quite a
lovely
glow in person, but of course I wasn't able to capture the subtle sheen of copper pigment digitally. You'll just have to visit me in Dixmont to see for yourself...okay?
