Gourd Horde

The last of the gourds...again. :o) I'm without my usual graphics program, so not sure this image looks like the original artwork, but it's the best I could do in a pinch. This was the groovin' music that had me movin'!  (To continue looking at the art while you listen, right click on the colored word 'music' and go to Open Link in New Tab.)

Rocky III

I've done more rock paintings than there are Rocky movies...that's saying a lot. I'm having a blast with these musical selections, one of my other passions. May you enjoy today's musical inspiration (To continue looking at the art while you listen, right click on the colored words 'musical inspiration' and go to Open Link in New Tab.)

And here's a rollover of the process.

Conga!

This summer we grew a big ole patch of gourds in our back yard without even trying! I mean, no one remembers planting them, but there they sprouted... right under the wild roses and sunflowers.

Aren't they cool? I was delighted to discover them and knew I'd be painting some. I also knew the title for this one as soon as I began setting it up...and chuckled all the way through.

Sunny With Clouds

I just love these square polka dotted bowls and the way the light strongly hits one side and leaves the other in shadow. I was pleased with the glow on the shadowed side. Gotta love this painting music (To continue looking at the art while you listen, right click on the colored word 'music' and go to Open Link in New Tab.)

It's Crunch Time

Every Tuesday my neighbors have a community farm stand with their organic produce. I always come away with fresh veggies and I often come away with beautiful reference photos. I was really going for the light on these shiny peppers. This is the music that had me moving today. Thanks a Bunch

Not exactly sure why, but this is one of my recent favorites. Maybe because it's a subject I've not painted often and it was fun, maybe the color combination, the grouping? I don't know...but I'm happy. This is the music that had me dancing at my easel.  (To continue looking at the art while you listen, right click on the colored word 'music' and go to Open Link in New Tab.)

Basking in the Glow

This is a little cup I found at a local Goodwill store. The small Seckel pear fit perfectly. I enjoyed this departure from my recent warm temperature paintings...back to the warmth tomorrow. Here's the music I listened to today while painting. (To continue looking at the art while you listen, right click on the colored word 'music' and go to Open Link in New Tab.)

Back to Back

This is from a photo taken at the Common Ground Country Fair this year.  My friend and fellow artist, Kathy Mallat and I go together each year to savor the sights, sounds, smells and to shoot loads of reference photos. The thing that always amazes us is that we can be standing next to each other and be totally drawn to completely different subjects. While Kath was photographing the fair goers for her gorgeous figurative paintings, I was right next to her photographing this small still life. The title Back to Back refers not only to these mini pumpkins, but to the way Kath and I were viewing the fair in terms of possible paintings. Cool , huh?

Point of Attraction

This is a new painting from an older series of reference photos. I can't get enough of this orange polka-dotted plate and I really enjoyed trying to get all the variations of warm oranges in the pear, plate and table.

Uninvited Guest

I love the variety of shapes and colors of peppers...and their shiny texture. Chuckling as I write this because I realized I don't cook with them all that much...just paint them.  Here's today's musical inspiration. I  adore Grace Jones...best played loudly...but isn't most music? Round and Round

I really love the color combination of these peaches on the blue and white plate... and all the circular patterns that create movement. This is what I was listening to today while I painted. Pumped

Our neighbors, the organic farmers at Peacemeal Farm, use two of our fields each year to rotate crops. I love to see what's growing and to watch the harvest. This year they planted pumpkins in one field. I wandered down and shot reference photos before they harvested all of them. They grow everything! And it all looks as good as it tastes! Here's the musical inspiration for this piece. (To continue looking at the art while you listen, right click on the colored word 'musical' and go to Open Link in New Tab.)
I've included a few steps along the way.
